This evening in Tirana, foreign ambassadors held a working meeting with the highest heads of justice institutions. Present at the table were EU Ambassador Silvio Gonzato, US Chargé d'Affaires Nancy VanHorn, Italian Ambassador Marco Alberti, Austrian Ambassador Monika Zach, as well as diplomats from the embassies of France and Germany.
The focus of the discussions, according to the public message of the Dutch Ambassador Reinout Vos, was the strengthening of independent institutions and guaranteeing accountability, as necessary elements for Albania's path towards the European Union.
" We organized a working breakfast with the justice institutions in Albania (ILD, KLP, KLGJ) and diplomatic partners. The role of independent institutions is essential for advancing EU integration, through the implementation of reforms, guaranteeing independence and strengthening accountability ," said Vos.
This meeting comes at a time when the integration process is closely linked to the progress of the justice reform. The ambassadors' message shows that international partners are keeping Albanian institutions under close monitoring, making it clear to the political elite that without real independence of the judiciary, the path to the EU remains blocked.
