The USS Mount Whitney arrived in Porto Romano today. Its arrival was scheduled for Saturday, but it arrived 3 days later. The US embassy itself announced that the cause was a maintenance problem, without giving details.
" Welcome to Albania, USS Mount Whitney! This is the first stop of a US warship in Porto Romano. We welcome this new phase in Albania's military modernization and this next step in the strong partnership between our countries, " the embassy announced.
The postponement of her arrival raised many questions, as there were rumors of disagreements with the prime minister, who was left out of the protocol. Meanwhile, it is not known whether there will be a reception ceremony, as planned. The embassy itself has canceled the announced concert for the second time.
“ Due to an unforeseen maintenance process, the arrival of the USS Mount Whitney in Albania has changed, and the concert in Tirana, originally scheduled for today, has been canceled. We thank you for your understanding. We continue to look forward to the arrival of the USS Mount Whitney in Porto Romano and to emphasizing the close partnership between the United States and Albania ,” she said.
