Portugal played an excellent first half against Uzbekistan, closing the first half with a clear 3-0 lead in the match valid for the second round of Group K.
The Portuguese team took the lead in the 6th minute. After a quick move and a precise assist from Joao Cancelo, Cristiano Ronaldo found himself alone in front of goal and made no mistake, sending the ball into the net for 1-0.
Just 11 minutes later, Portugal doubled their lead. Nuno Mendes scored his first goal at a World Cup, perfectly executing a free kick from a forward position. Although Ronaldo made a run for the ball, it was the Portuguese defender who took charge and sent the ball into the net for 2-0.
Uzbekistan thought they had narrowed the gap in the 29th minute with a superb goal from Azizjon Ganiev. The midfielder surprised goalkeeper Diogo Costa with a powerful shot from distance, but the goal was disallowed after VAR intervened for a foul by Abosbek Fajzullaev on Joao Cancelo during the build-up.
In the 38th minute, Portugal struck again on the counterattack. Bruno Fernandes served for Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored his second personal goal and the third for the Portuguese team.
This was Ronaldo's 10th goal in World Cup history, while the number of goals in his entire career has reached 975.
