"Security and economy, US priority in Albania", Serwer: Here's
Daniel Server,

American professor and expert on Balkan affairs, Daniel Serwer, believes that the statements of the new US-nominated ambassador to Albania, Eric Wendt, show continuity of American priorities in the country, with a focus on security and economic cooperation, as well as support for the rule of law.

Commenting on the ambassadorial nominee's statements in an interview with journalist Rosalba Bejdo on the "Rretheqark" show on A2CNN, Serwer said: " He (Wendt) seems to me to be a military man with a fulfilled career, and who made a professional statement, emphasizing economic and security cooperation with Albania. I think this seems like a very good idea ."

Asked if Washington is giving more importance to security issues than democracy or political reforms in Albania, Serwer responded by saying "yes", but stressed that the US continues to have an important role in strengthening the rule of law.

" I think so. Washington has so far largely ignored what is happening internally in Albania and other Balkan countries. The exception to Albania has been precisely the rule of law, and there the US is playing an important role, as it is a foundation for economic cooperation and the development of the country in a capitalist society and this must continue and I hope that the EU will be in this joint effort and I believe it will be. It is not something new. They are simply showing that this administration is pursuing the same objectives as in the past ," he continued.

Regarding American support for SPAK, Serwer expressed optimism that it will continue in the future. " I really hope so, and part of his statement said this ," Serwer declared.
