Prime Minister Edi Rama announced on Monday evening that the engineering forces will not leave Theth until the inert debris has been cleared, following the collapse of buildings in Theth, over the course of a week.

Rama wrote on the social network that around 100 unauthorized buildings were in extreme violation of the law on protected areas, the history and fascinating landscape of that area, and the tourism that has been cultivated over the years by those who have sacrificed to make Theth the destination it is today.

While considering what happened in Theth as 'criminal folly', the Prime Minister stressed that the forces of evil will leave when they completely clean up this area. Rama even considers this as the beginning of Urban Renaissance 2.0, considering this as vital for Albania in the EU.

Today, Edi Rama warned that actions like the one in Theth against unauthorized construction will be taken throughout the territory and, as a concrete example of this, the Head of Government announced the confiscation of a building under construction in Vlora, after the construction permit was violated.

"Today, with the support of the engineering forces, the cleaning of the inert remains of the execution of decisions against 40 entities that had planted over 100 unauthorized buildings - from those with walls to those with metal and wooden construction - has begun in Theth, in extreme violation of the law on protected areas, the history and fascinating landscape of that area, and the tourism that has been cultivated over the years by those who have sacrificed to make Theth the destination it is today."

The forces of the Gendarmerie will not leave Theth until the last debris has been removed, while a massive building remains to be demolished, in order to complete the full execution of the IKMT decisions and return Theth to the normality it was before this criminal madness.

"Urban Renaissance 2.0 has begun as a vital necessity for Albania 2030 in the EU," Rama wrote on social media.

Tensions

Rama's reaction comes at a time when residents in Theth claim that there has been no notification from IKMT regarding the buildings that would be demolished.

One of the residents of Theth, who, based on an ultimatum from the IKMT that asked residents to dismantle their wooden houses themselves, said that he waited for letters and documents from the state and they did not bring any notification.

On the other hand, members of a family oppose the demolition of one of the wooden huts.

The IKMT team has arrived at the last building that was scheduled to be demolished, but the residents opposed it.

They are demanding a court order from IKMT stating that the building must be demolished. Residents have blocked the road by sitting down and have prevented IKMT vehicles from passing.

While the police created a security cordon, removing family members and residents, the IKMT team began demolishing the apartment, but it was impossible because all the family members had entered the building.

This has created tensions, as residents claim that IKMT is intervening beyond the previously announced deadline of 6:00 PM.
