A statement by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during a podcast interview has caused controversy in Australia, forcing him to issue a public apology.
Albanese was a guest on comedian Nikki Osborne's Bush Deep podcast, where he was asked a fun question during the conversation. He was asked to choose which of Kylie Minogue, Nicole Kidman and Rhonda Burchmore he would rather date, marry or have sex with.
At first, the Prime Minister tried to avoid answering, recalling that he had only been married six months earlier. However, he then responded by choosing Kylie Minogue.
The statement was met with criticism from Australian politicians. One MP called the comment inappropriate, while another said it was offensive to women and undermined the dignity of the prime minister's office.
Following the reactions, Albanese published a short statement on Monday, where he apologized unreservedly for the comments made during the interview.
