Journalist Sokol Bregu spoke about the disturbing phenomenon of corruption within Albanian prisons.
On the show "Quo Vadis" on Vizion Plus, he commented on the latest case in Drenova prison, where it is suspected that a girl with a false name, a public figure, entered the cell for a "special meeting" with a convict.
Although Bregu did not provide concrete figures on how much a VIP escort in prison costs, he emphasized that lifers are often given gifts as a way of granting them privileges in an environment where they live deprived of their freedom.
Excerpts from the conversation:
Bregu: We have to share something. It's not a violation of the law. They can register them as cohabitants at some point. Albanian law also recognizes cohabitants. What happened in Drenova is different because it was registered under another person's name. We are facing two things, corruption and girls who come in and have a special meeting in favor of money and pleasure.
-How much does it cost?
Bregu: Usually, life prisoners are given gifts as if they were deprived of life. If you consider that one miss costs something more and another less, it is a matter that is very debatable. I cannot get into the issue of money. My concern remains corruption in prisons.
