The telephone company "One Albania" has announced a tariff increase for all subscribers, starting from May 1, 2026.
In a standard message distributed to subscribers, One announced that prices will increase by up to 2.2% based on the consumer price index published by NSTAT. Although this increase may seem insignificant at first glance, over the course of a year, it can be treated as a tax that is added to the pockets of citizens.
The increase in One's tariffs has been opposed by subscribers, while there is still no official reaction from the institutions, or any action taken by them, to protect the consumer.
So far there has been a spontaneous reaction from subscribers, but it seems that as the date of the anticipated increase approaches, there may be complaints that could set the relevant institutions in motion.
"One" has faced complaints and reactions from institutions, including AKEP, quite a few times in recent years. A similar situation occurred 3 years ago, when One limited services to subscribers, which brought a series of reactions.
According to lawyer Ervin Ymeraj, AKEP, the Commissioner or the Consumer Protection Agency should be put into action against such a policy.
The lawyer states that the company cannot affect the rights of subscribers, although in the contracts it recognizes the right to automatically increase the price.
" The One company in the contract recognizes the right to increase the price unilaterally and automatically, but the client has certain rights that the contract cannot affect."
"The contract clauses must be clear and understandable. The customer must be well informed from the beginning and know that any price change will directly affect him. This is not clarified in the notification sent. Subscribers should receive the information in private, but it is not explained in ONE's notification whether they have the opportunity to object ," he said.
Ymeraj emphasizes that despite notifying its subscribers or customers about the price change, the company has not respected the subscribers' right to clear and complete information.
" The information provided by the company is unclear. Any subscriber can object and the company should take this into account. If the consumer does not intervene and does not object, this is considered acceptance, and the increase can continue ," the lawyer says.
According to him, subscribers have the right to object to the changes, to request termination of the contract, but they should take into account the consequences that this may bring.
