The United States seems to have turned its attention back to Tirana.
The embassy has been without an ambassador for almost 3 years, while Washington's role has been much more withdrawn. This has caused politics to "dance", while attacks on justice have increased.
But yesterday and today there were very interesting developments from the Americans. President Donald Trump nominated Eric Wendt for ambassador to Tirana. If the Senate approves, a new spirit is expected at the embassy.
On the other hand, it is learned that the head of SPAK Klodjan Braho and the two heads of the sections for the investigation of corruption and organized crime, Dorina Bejko and Vladimir Mara, have been summoned to the US. They have been there since yesterday and are holding meetings with personalities from the Department of Justice, FBI, DEA and other important institutions.
Their focus is expected to be strengthening cooperation and support for SPAK and American priorities for the fight against drug trafficking and drug cartels.
But history has shown that every time SPAK leaders go to the US, they return with clear messages. Sali Berisha was indicted after just one year in the US. The same thing happened later with Erion Veliaj and Ilir Meta. So the question that arises is: Who will have the turn now?
The fact that Braho has taken with him both the head of the corruption section and the head of organized crime, makes one suspect that we may have a blow against both those in power and the gangs.
