New details have emerged from the investigation by the Tirana police and prosecution, regarding the case of smuggling of medicines and tax evasion by the owners Bilal Kara, a Turkish citizen, and Gerjana Arapi from Saranda.
The smuggled medicines are suspected of having entered Albania through Turkey, Kosovo and Greece, on bus lines, and were then used on various patients receiving medical services at the former "Sante Plus" hospital, currently called "International Medical Care Hospital".
Sources close to the Tirana police said that one of the shareholders, Gerjana Arapi, wanted by the capital's police, turns out to be the sister of Martin Arapi, the former IMT inspector in Saranda, who was wanted for 15 months by decision of the Saranda Court, after being accused of "Abuse of office".
Meanwhile, a second file has been registered in the Saranda court, after in November 2024, Martin Arapi was released for security measures after being arrested by the police on charges of "assault in the line of duty" against the former chief inspector of the Saranda IMT.
The court has ordered the measure of "prison arrest" for Martin Arapi, while he was later released under "house arrest" by the Court of Appeal. But in February 2025, after a request filed by Martin Arapi's lawyers, the Saranda court again decided to lift the security measure and impose a measure with a financial guarantee against the former IMT official, Martin Arapi.
But 6 months after this case with the main character Martin Arapi, another case file is opened in Tirana. This time the main character who is the subject of the investigation is Martin Arapi's sister, Gerjana Arapi.
The latter, along with her Turkish partner, Bilal Kara, has already been declared wanted for several financial charges. Meanwhile, the hospital administrator Edmond Zaja has been arrested and is expected to appear in court this weekend to be informed of the security measure that the representative of the Tirana prosecutor's office will request./ Ora News
