If we analyze confidential internal data from the Trauma Hospital, the consequences of the blockage of operating rooms are alarming.
What you see in the video below is the waiting list for surgeries, obtained exclusively by Inside Story. On that list, there are over 2,000 patients who have been waiting for months to undergo surgical interventions. This queue refers to registrations until December 2025, as the number of patients waiting has increased in recent months. Among them, there are citizens who have been waiting for more than 1 year.
" I want to ask you about an intervention you planned at the Trauma Hospital in March of last year, did you do it? No, they haven't notified us, no communication for a year or so," the citizen said.
" He can't walk at all from his knees, we were in Librazhd, he can't walk at all, he's stuck here. He's been taking medication everywhere in Italy, they're not doing anything for him, he needs surgery ," the citizen said.
" No, they didn't notify us at all. We went there, made that planning, left our phone number and now we're waiting. 2 months passed, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year or so, no notification, nothing at all ," the citizen said.
" An important element to look at is whether the waiting list extension time is longer than the reconstruction time that has already passed. If this exceeds it, it means that it is not only related to the reconstruction time, but also to other elements. For example, if we have a 3-month delay in reconstruction and the waiting list makes sense that it has been postponed by three months, but if it has been postponed longer, there are other elements as well ," said Ilir Alimehmeti, a doctor.
However, the hospital's management told "Inside Story" that it has reduced the waiting list, which in 2022 was up to 6 years of waiting. According to the hospital, the waiting list has currently been reduced to 570 patients.
Trauma: The waiting list for endoprosthesis reached over 1,100 patients at the end of 2022 and the waiting time was 6 years. Since the beginning of 2023, sufficient budgeting has allowed all emergencies to be covered and backlogged interventions to be gradually carried out. Currently, the number of patients waiting has been halved, 570 patients on the list, as a result of removals from the list after surgery and new registrations, and the waiting time has been reduced to about 13 months.

Disa prej pacientëve denoncuan pranë redaksisë sonë fenomenin. Për të kuptuar përmasën, ne telefonuam shumë prej personave në listë pritjeje, që konfirmonin situatën e vështirë. Ata nuk preferojnë të identifikohen pasi i tremben hakmarrjes dhe nuk janë në gjendje ekonomike t’i drejtohen shërbimit privat. Rastet dhe sfidat me të cilat përballen janë nga më të ndryshmet. Një zonjë na rrëfeu për mjekimin e gabuar për 9 vite, e më pas, kur u kuptua problematika, sërish i duhej të priste për të marrë shërbimin mjekësor.
“Po pres, akoma jo. Keni shqetësime? Kam shumë. Ku e keni ndërhyrjen? Jam rrëzuar, legenin, a s’e di si është, por duhet protezë. E kam lënë ka dy vjet, kam 10 vjet kështu se nuk e dija. Më bënin skaner, më dilnin ato sëmundjet reumatizmale, spondiloartroza. Pas 9 vitesh bëra grafi dhe dola që isha shumë keq. Dhe ndërkohë prisni akoma? Çfarë të bëjmë? Presim. Doktori tha varet kur do të vijë proteza, mund të vazhdojë 1 vit, 2 vjet, 3 vjet. Varet në bazë të atyre që bën kërkesë shteti. Më thanë që për të futur hekurin në gju, në gjurin e djathtë, do të presësh 4 vjet. Sa duhet të presësh për këtë? 4 vjet më kanë thënë. Është njëra që shkruan pas doktorit dhe i thashë unë, kam vajtur 3-4 herë, dhe i thashë më ka ardhur radha. Jo, tha, nuk ka ardhur. I thashë si nuk më vjen radha, unë kam dy vjet që pres për t’u bërë operim, si nuk më vjen radha? Po ja, tha, prishet aparati. I thashë, po unë nuk kam lekë”, u shpreh qytetari.
“Nëse kjo është e vërtetë që një urgjencë ortopedike e paraqitur në Traumë, për arsye të mungesës së sallave, nuk bëhet dhe kalojnë ditë apo javë, kjo pastaj është totalisht keqmenaxhim, është kriminale, sepse nuk i është dhënë shërbimi i duhur pacientit sipas përcaktimeve të ligjit për shërbimet shëndetësore dhe të Kushtetutës në Republikën e Shqipërisë. Në rastet e Traumës dhe të emergjencave të menjëhershme nuk mund të ketë pritje dhe ndërhyrja është e rekomanduar të bëhet në mënyrë të menjëhershme. Nëse themi listë pritjeje te Trauma, nuk duhet të ketë”, u shpreh mjeku, Besnik Jakaj.
Pritja duket se i ka lodhur pacientët, veçanërisht ata që janë në kushtet kur e vetmja zgjidhje është operacioni, asnjë medikament nuk ua lehtëson dhimbjen.
Në këto kushte, pjesa më e madhe e tyre kanë nevojë që të marrin përkujdesje në banesë për shkak të problemeve të rënda fizike.
“A e ke bërë ti një ndërhyrje që e ke pasur të planifikuar tek Spitali i Traumës? Jo shpirt, nuk e kam bërë”, u shpreh qytetari.
" I didn't do it, no, but I wrote it there, I paid 30 thousand lek when my turn came," the citizen said.
" It's good that the doctor told me that maybe something will happen, who knows, my husband died, I'm alone," the citizen said.
During the research and conversation with the patients, it was noticeable that some of them, although they were on the waiting list, had undergone the procedure at the Trauma Hospital. This raises another question as to why they are on the list and have an open card at the hospital, while they received the service under suspicion of favoritism in the queue.
" I did it, did you do it there or privately? There, I did it there. On what date? I don't remember, I think it was at the end of May ," the citizen said.
Regarding this claim by patients, the Hospital said that in addition to emergencies and the waiting list, it also offers a service for those who purchase the necessary materials for the intervention themselves.
Trauma: In addition to the waiting list, SUT has always offered the service of performing surgical interventions for patients who provide the necessary orthopedic material themselves and do not wait for the waiting list. This fact is documented in the patient's file, who of course also signs the informed consent, as for any operation.
While other patients hinted that they were negotiating a shortcut, which meant paying a bribe...
" The boy spoke to the doctor, but we still can't fix it ourselves, you understand, I believe you understand... "
" We did it there, at Trauma, but we did it for a fee, we bought the prosthesis, you understand? Where did you buy it? At the hospital, at the Trauma Hospital, 3500 euros ," the citizen said.
" How did you make the payment? Where did you make it? At the hospital? Yes, we made it in cash at the hospital ," the citizen said.
" The doctor took them, we gave them to him ," the citizen said.
" The first time, 3 thousand euros. Who told you? The doctor told us," the citizen said.
