The President of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, filed an appeal on August 25 against the decision of the GJKKO, which left him in "prison arrest".
The Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime rejected the request to replace the security measure of "prison arrest" against him, arguing that the legal conditions for a more lenient security measure were not met.
Lawyer Romeo Kara said that Ilir Meta's defense will have a hard time overturning the reasoning of the Court of First Instance in the Appeal. According to him, the evidence and facts classify Meta as involved in corruption, in at least three cases.
"Looking at the reasoning of the first instance of the GJKKO, I believe that it will be difficult for Meta's defense to reject the reasoning of this decision, which establishes that Meta committed those criminal offenses. We have corruption in at least three cases. He can intimidate the evidence and influence the living evidence, which is the testimony. He can intimidate them and can influence them. The court has seen fit to keep him under the security measure of arrest in prison. Berisha's case will last several months, while Meta's I believe will take two or three months," said Kara.
