Borussia Dortmund president Hans-Joakim Watcke has put Erling Haaland's future back in the spotlight, stating that the Norwegian striker wants to play for Real Madrid.
In an interview with Spanish newspaper AS, Watcke said he does not expect Haaland to leave Manchester City any time soon, but believes his move to the Spanish giant is only a matter of time.
" Erling loves Real Madrid and he doesn't hide it. I think in two or three years he will play there, but not now. His time will come ," declared Watcke.
According to him, the Norwegian striker has not yet reached any agreement with any other club, leaving every possibility open for the future.
The Dortmund president's comments come at a great time for Haaland, who is enjoying one of the best periods of his career. He was a key figure in Norway's qualification for the World Cup after a 28-year absence, scoring seven goals during the qualifying phase.
At the World Cup, Haaland continues to shine, leading Norway and once again confirming his status as one of the best strikers in world football.
Currently, the 26-year-old is valued at around 200 million euros, making him among the most expensive footballers in the world, on the same level as Spanish talent Lamin Jamal.
Although Manchester City have denied the existence of a release clause in his contract, Haaland's representatives have repeatedly stressed that the player will decide for himself the destination and timing of the next step in his career.
Real Madrid have been tracking Haaland for years. The Madrid club had shown interest in him when he was playing for Molde, but it was Salzburg that secured the striker's transfer. Since then, the Norwegian's name has been repeatedly linked with a move to the "Santiago Bernabeu".
If Watcke's prediction comes true, Haaland's story could resemble that of Kylian Mbappe, who joined Real Madrid only after several years of waiting and negotiations.
