Police Chief Hita issues ultimatum to Police: Crack down on cannabis and illegal

The Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hita, has toughened his tone towards local Police structures in the north of the country, during a series of meetings with leaders and officers in Shkodër and Lezha.

In these meetings, he presented the main work priorities, requesting immediate response to some of the most recurring problems in these regions.

At the center of the demands was the fight against the cultivation of narcotic plants. Hita considered it unacceptable that the same situation is repeated every year in Shkodra and Lezha, where plants are discovered and destroyed, but without hitting the roots of the phenomenon.

He requested a detailed analysis of each case and information, with the aim of identifying and punishing the financiers and organizers of this activity.

The Police Director also focused on a number of other issues, calling for: cracking down on illegal possession of weapons, arresting wanted persons, increasing checks in public spaces and vehicles, prohibiting unauthorized construction, and cracking down on gambling and illegal call centers.

He also emphasized the importance of a quick and professional response to citizens, as well as ensuring safety in schools, on the streets, and for property.

In a direct message, Hita warned that no violation of the law by police officers will be tolerated.

He referred to the case of the Peqin Police Station as a precedent, emphasizing that any employee who abuses their duty or becomes part of illegality will face the same measures.

Another focus was the management of border crossings, where it is required to avoid queues and provide a dignified service to citizens and tourists. The Border Police was instructed to strengthen controls to prevent illegal cross-border traffic.

"The Border Police must be a model in service, manage flows to avoid queues and guarantee a dignified reception for citizens and tourists, as well as strengthen measures to prevent and crack down on illegal cross-border trafficking," he said.

Hita also announced the launch of a new operation, starting on Monday, to liberate occupied road axes.

Police structures will support the ARA and will take administrative and criminal measures against violators who have occupied public spaces.
