Details from the file of call centers that had defrauded thousands of European citizens in Tirana are being published, in investigations that lasted 2 years and were finalized with 10 arrests.
The first information on call centers in Tirana was submitted by Austrian authorities on November 25, 2024, on suspicion of defrauding Austrian citizens of staggering amounts, more than 30 million euros over 1 year (2023-2024).
The victims accessed these fraudulent platforms through a fake advertisement of a famous person. The fraudulent operators, who posed as “financial advisors”, remotely controlled the victims’ computers through the “any desk” program. The ID addresses were “masked” using VPN, but the Austrian partners managed to identify 2 Albanian IPDs.
From the official communications of the Tirana Prosecutor's Office with internet companies in Albania, the end users of these IPs were discovered, which have been functional since at least November 2023. This means that these fraudulent call centers, hit in an action on Monday evening, have been operating for at least 3 years in the capital.
According to "Report Tv", it is said that the first to be discovered was Eduard Dalla, 48 years old, arrested. His phone number was on an internet contract connected to a company in Tirana. The contract was concluded by street marketing employees, and the name on the contract was Jose Santos, which the investigation team discovered was fictitious, in order to lose track. But the element that led them to the 48-year-old was precisely his mobile phone number.
From the wiretaps conducted, it turned out that Eduard Dalla wanted to sign other internet contracts, at least 7 of them he wanted to have in the name of his company, "Sonet shpk", or Sonet Solution, also these fictitious companies, since the internet ended in the premises where the call center activity was carried out.
According to joint investigations with the Austrians, it is suspected that Eduard Dalla serves as an intermediary between the call center and various internet service providers, to make it difficult to identify them via IP.
