Prime Minister Edi Rama, speaking today about the National Water Operator, spoke, among other things, about what he considered to be the government's fight to protect water resources from the construction of hydroelectric power plants.
In this context, Rama said that the Government has long stopped issuing permits for hydroelectric power plants. According to him, during the Berisha government, they went out on the streets and sold permits for hydroelectric power plants, describing them as a network of bloodsuckers like leeches.
"I have an example of this that all those who stand up when there is a need for a water source to be put into service of the Albanian people should understand. This government has long banned HPPs and has waged a major war with the permits given for HPPs. Those permits for mini-energy superpowers, complete delirium. That mini-superpower was the creation of a network of bloodsuckers, just like leeches attack the body, to suck water from farmers, entire areas, and to dry up the riverbed, so that some could produce energy. They went out on the streets and sold permits for HPPs. We did it to protect the water resources of the Albanian people, not to stop entrepreneurship," said Rama.
