The Senegal-Morocco match remains at the centre of debate, with recent developments raising suspicions of match-fixing. The issue was brought back into focus after a press conference attended by the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe.
During the press conference, Motsepe was asked why no Senegalese player was given a yellow card after temporarily leaving the field of play, an episode that caused chaos and had international repercussions. The CAF chief did not give a direct answer, leaving room for interpretation and suspicion.
This incident is related to CAF's decision to strip Senegal of the title and award it to Morocco, a case that is currently being reviewed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Asked about possible interference by Olivier Safari, president of the referees' commission, Motsepe chose to defer the answer to the CAF secretary general. The latter simply stated that the process is still ongoing, without confirming or denying the suspicions.
This reserved approach and the lack of a clear rebuttal have fueled speculation about interference in the arbitrary management of the match.
Meanwhile, in Morocco these doubts have been refuted, defending the legitimacy of the decisions taken. However, ambiguities in official communication and the subsequent disciplinary procedures keep the debate over the integrity of the process open.
