Italy recorded their second win in Group I of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, beating Estonia 5-0 in Bergamo. New coach Gennaro Gattuso secured three points in his debut as Italy coach.
After a first half full of chances, with Retegi hitting the crossbar, Italy broke through in the 58th minute. Moize Kin headed home a well-placed pass from Retegi, easing the tension. A little later, Kin himself hit the post, but Retegi found two more goals, while Raspador increased the lead by setting a significant difference in the final goal difference. In extra time, Bastoni sealed the victory with a beautiful header.
This result was a promising start for the Italian team under Gattuso, giving them three golden points on the road to the 2026 World Cup. With six points after three rounds, Italy holds third place in Group I, three less than Israel and six less than Norway who have one more match.
Greece also achieved a goal-scoring victory, defeating Belarus 5-1. France and the Czech Republic triumphed with 2 goals away, while Croatia achieved a minimal victory over the Faroe Islands.
