Zlatan Ibrahimovic is facing fresh criticism in a period that has already brought debate about his role at Milan. Following the dissatisfaction of the Rossoneri fans with the club's management and recent sporting decisions, the former Swedish striker has also been put in the spotlight in the United States for his work as a commentator during the 2026 World Cup.

An editorial published in the sports section of the New York Times, The Athletic, has expressed a highly critical attitude towards Ibrahimovic's appearances on Fox Sports broadcasts. According to the authors of the analysis, his contribution in the studio has not been at the expected level and his presence has not brought the value that the American television station intended to offer during its coverage of the competition.

The article argues that Ibrahimovic has failed to adapt to the demands of the sports analyst role. The assessment highlights that his experience as a top-level footballer has not automatically translated into the ability to analyse matches and provide in-depth television commentary.

The authors of the editorial compare the Swede's situation to that of Tom Brady, the American football legend, noting that he also needed time to develop as a television commentator. According to them, Ibrahimovic still has some time available to improve his performance, as the World Cup final is approaching.

One of the main criticisms is related to the level of knowledge he has shown about the teams and protagonists of the tournament. The analysis mentions that during discussions about Canada and its American coach, Jesse Marsch, Ibrahimovic gave the impression that he was not familiar with the figure of the technician, which has raised doubts about his preparation for the broadcasts.

According to the editorial, the former AC Milan, PSG, Inter, Barcelona and Manchester United star would be more effective if he focused on the technical and tactical aspects of the game. The authors believe that his long experience in elite football can be better used to explain the movements on the pitch, tactical choices and elements that helped him build a successful career as a goalscorer.

The same analysis also draws comparisons with Thierry Henry, who was also part of the World Cup pundit panel. The former French striker was praised for his commentary of Cristiano Ronaldo's performances and match developments, offering what was considered clear and detailed analysis.

The criticism isn't limited to Ibrahimovic. The Athletic also reserved negative comments for Alexis Lalas, the former American defender and another well-known figure in the Fox Sports studio. According to the editorial, he too has failed to convince the public with his analysis and television style.

The assessments published by the American media add to the pressure on Ibrahimovic, who in recent months has often been at the center of discussions both for his leadership role at Milan and for his media activity outside of playing football.
