Privacy and cybersecurity experts have raised concerns about allowing apps full access to a phone's photo gallery, a feature widely used on platforms like Instagram.
According to them, granting unlimited access to the photo album could increase the risk of accidentally uploading images that the user does not intend to publish, as well as exposing personal materials that may contain sensitive data.
Thorin Klosowski, a security and privacy expert at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, points out that limiting access to only selected photos helps users have greater control over what they share and reduces the risk of unintentional exposure of personal content.
According to specialists, the photo album on the phone contains not only everyday personal images, but also various documents that may include identifying data, such as identity cards or bank cards, which can be misused in the event of uncontrolled access.
Part of the concerns is also related to the use of artificial intelligence on some platforms, where in certain cases users' images can be automatically processed for suggestion or editing purposes, raising questions about how visual data is used and analyzed.
Experts recommend that users regularly review the permissions they grant to applications on their devices and choose the minimum access option necessary for the service to function, in order to better protect their privacy.
