Billie Eilish made a strong statement during her speech at the WSJ Magazine Innovator Awards. She said that billionaires should do more to help the world.
"We are in a time when the world is very dark and people need more empathy and help than ever before," said the 23-year-old artist, adding:
"If you have money, it would be nice to use it to do something good - maybe give it to some people who need it."
The famous singer, who was honored with the award for Music Innovator, did not spare words for those present in the hall, where big names such as Mark Zuckerberg, Hailey Bieber, Spike Lee, Ben Stiller, Chris Rock and others were present.
Addressing him in sincere tones, she added:
"I love you all, but some here have a lot more money than I do. If you're a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but yes, give your money."
Her speech elicited a mix of reactions – some subdued applause and some smiles from the audience at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg was also in the audience, and he did not applaud after Eilish's statement.
According to Forbes, Zuckerberg is ranked as the third richest person in the world, with a net worth of around $257 billion.
Along with his wife Priscilla Chan, he was at the ceremony after Chan was honored with the "Philanthropy Innovator in Science 2025" award, for her work through the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, which focuses on creating tools to treat diseases.
Anyway, Billie Eilish's wealth is estimated at $50 million, which is not a small amount. What if she started it from herself, for example?!
