Jorge Jesus has been appointed as the new coach of the Portugal national team, signing a four-year contract, valid until the summer of 2030. The Portuguese coach replaces Roberto Martinez, who left after the end of Portugal's adventure in the 2026 World Cup.
For the 72-year-old, this is the first time in his career that he has taken charge of a national team, after a long and successful experience at the club level.
Jesus comes to the Portugal bench after his last experience with Al-Nassr, where he worked with stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Felix, leading the team to win the championship title.
Considered one of the most successful Portuguese coaches, Jesus has built a rich career with teams such as Estrela, Uniao de Leiria, Braga, Benfica, Sporting Lisbon, Flamengo, Fenerbahçe and Al Hilal. One of his greatest successes remains the triumph in the Copa Libertadores with Flamengo.
The Portuguese Federation has entrusted him with a long-term project, with the aim of opening a new cycle at the helm of the national team. If he sees out his contract until the end, Jorge Jesus will end his term in the summer of 2030, at the age of 76.
