Jurgen Klopp reaches agreement with Germany, new cycle begins with big claims
Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp is very close to being appointed as the new coach of the German national team. According to reports from "Bild", the parties reached a preliminary agreement during a meeting held on July 10 in New York, where the president of the German Football Association (DFB), Bernd Neuendorf, vice-president Hans-Joachim Vacke, Klopp himself and his agent, Marc Kosicke, discussed the details of the cooperation.

The next step remains the formal approval of the contract by the DFB's governing bodies, before the agreement becomes official.

According to sources, Klopp is expected to sign a contract until the end of the 2030 World Cup. He will lead Germany throughout the qualifying cycle for “EURO 2028”, as well as the 2030 World Cup, which will be organized by Spain, Portugal and Morocco. The German coach is expected to receive a salary of around 7 million euros per season, slightly higher than that of his predecessor, Julian Nagelsmann.

The last obstacle, the contract with Red Bull

Before the DFB can make the appointment official, Klopp must terminate his contract with Red Bull, where he currently holds the position of Head of Football Operations.

The company's CEO, Oliver Minclaf, is expected to travel to New York to negotiate the terms of his departure with the coach and his staff. Relations between Minclaf and the German Federation have not been good in recent years. In 2023 he was appointed to the "Council of the Wise", a group created to help rebuild the national team, along with well-known names such as Rudi Föller, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Oliver Kahn and Matthias Sammer. However, just a few months later he left this group amid controversy, stating that their suggestions were never taken into account.

Despite this, Minclaff was aware of Klopp's desire to return to the bench only if he received an offer from the German national team.

There is no clause, but a verbal agreement

For years, the media has reported that Klopp had a clause in his contract with Red Bull that would allow him to leave if he was called up by Germany. However, Minclaff has consistently denied the existence of such a clause.

According to him, there is only a verbal agreement between the parties, based on trust, which allows Klopp to leave without penalty if he takes over as national coach. In exchange, he will continue to remain a Red Bull brand ambassador for commercial activities.

The German Federation's reaction

The DFB has also officially confirmed the meeting with Klopp through a statement.

" The DFB President and Vice President Hans-Joachim Vacke held the first detailed talks with Jurgen Klopp in New York regarding the possibility of his appointment as coach of the German national team. During the constructive meeting, an understanding was reached on the main points of a possible contract. The talks will continue next week and both parties believe that, depending on the agreement with Red Bull, the negotiations can be concluded successfully ," the German Federation said in a statement.
