Bari takes unusual step: Public cemeteries for pets approved

The city of Bari in Italy will soon have its first public cemetery for pets, after the unanimous approval of the project by the City Council.

The dedicated space will be built near the Loseto necropolis and will serve for the burial of companion animals, mainly dogs and cats, offering owners a special place to say goodbye to their pets.

The decision came after a proposal submitted by several municipal councilors and was unanimously supported by the Council members present.

According to the project, the municipal administration will initiate procedures for drafting a technical and economic feasibility study. This process will also involve private partners, as well as local health authorities (ASL), in order to guarantee compliance with all sanitary and environmental standards.

The initiative aims to give citizens the opportunity to accompany their pets in a dignified manner, appreciating the important place they occupy in the lives of many families.

The authors of the proposal have described this project as "a step forward towards civilization", noting that many cities in Italy and other European countries already have cemeteries dedicated to pets.
