The Vetëvendosje Movement is expected to secure its 53rd seat in the Kosovo Assembly as vote counting nears its final stages. At the same time, a tight race for one seat is underway between the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK).
With the counting of the remaining dozens of postal ballot boxes, it is almost certain that there will be a change in the distribution of mandates among political parties. Based on current trends and the counting of thousands of additional votes, Vetëvendosje will move to 53 mandates, adding that this is also expected to be the final seat result for this political entity.
However, it remains unclear which party will lose the mandate that passes to VV. Initially, the likelihood is that LDK will lose its 19th mandate, but by the time all postal votes are counted, there is a slightly greater chance that PDK will be left without its 22nd mandate and the LDK will have its mandate returned.
Cakolli emphasized that the race between PDK and LDK is extremely close, as the difference in coefficients could translate into less than 100 votes at the end of the process.
According to him, the final mandate could also be determined by conditional votes, which usually reflect more the voting trend within Kosovo, a factor that could potentially favor the PDK. Meanwhile, the AAK is expected to end the process with seven seats in the Assembly.
Cakolli announced that the counting of postal votes is expected to be completed by Wednesday morning at the latest, while conditional votes are expected to be completed by midnight. He added that, depending on the number of polling stations that may be subject to recount by the CEC's decision, the entire counting process is expected to be completed by the end of this week. With the current results, LVV has 52 seats, PDK 22, LDK 19 and AAK 7.
