Pope Leo praised the interim agreement between the United States and Iran to end the war in the Middle East, saying "I thank God" that the two powers are ready to officially sign it on Friday.
Leo, who had incurred the wrath of US President Donald Trump after criticizing the war with Iran, said he hoped the deal would end the conflict for good.
"There will still be many points to be resolved, but it is always better to do this through dialogue, through negotiations, and not by returning to war. I hope that this is truly a solution to the war, that the war is truly over and that we can move forward ," the first American pope told reporters outside his residence in Castel Gandolfo, Italy.
