With almost two weeks left before the Kosovo Assembly's deadline to elect a new President, LDK opposes the candidacies that could be proposed by Albin Kurti's Vetëvendosje.
In a post, Avdullah Hoti emphasized that Kosovo should have a president with high personal, academic and social integrity, who prioritizes constitutionalism and is not dependent on political calculations for another mandate. According to him, this is the only way to ensure the balance of powers and avoid the concentration of power in a single person.
He added that the last five years have seen a concentration of power and a series of developments that he has criticized.
"Many unconstitutional laws have been signed by the President without any objections, even though it was clearly known that they were in conflict with the Constitution. The Constitution gives the President the right to return such laws to the Assembly for reconsideration, but this right has never been used. I believe the reasons are clear," Hoti declared.
He also mentioned the dismissal of the CEC Chairperson, the absence of the Chief Prosecutor for a long period, the actions of the KIA, reports of pressure on the media and businesses, as well as the manner in which the election date was set.
"Even the election date was set at the request of a political party. The President herself stated this in her attempt to gain support for a second term," he added.
Hoti stressed that otherwise the country must go to elections.
