The General Council of the Vetëvendosje Movement has confirmed Albin Kurti as the candidate for prime minister in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

During the meeting held today, the acting prime minister stated that he aims for a new governing mandate after the LVV's victories in the 2025 elections, both in the February elections and in the December extraordinary elections.

In the last elections, Vetëvendosje secured over 51% of the vote, while Kurti was the most voted candidate in the country.

During his speech, Kurti said that the increase in support for Vetëvendosje is continuous, while adding that they aim to receive 60% of the votes.

"From February to December, we grew by 9%. If we continue at the same pace until June, we can touch 60%. With work, sincerity and dedication, this is completely possible," Kurti declared.

He accused the opposition of blocking institutional processes and emphasized that its actions have not defeated the people, but have aimed to obstruct the state.

"Every time they block us, we are growing. The opposition has realized that it cannot defeat the people and for this reason it has chosen to block the state," he said.

Kurti added that new elections were not necessary for the citizens and the state, but could be in the interest of some political factors operating "from the shadows."

Meanwhile, the Central Election Commission has announced that 22 political entities and three coalitions have registered to participate in the June 7 elections, while nine entities have withdrawn from the race either individually or in coalitions.
