A joint meeting of European Union foreign ministers and representatives of the six Western Balkan countries will be held in Brussels on Monday. This will be the first meeting of this format for Kosovo's acting foreign minister, Glauk Konjufca.
Following the joint meeting, the Foreign Ministers of the EU member states will hold a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council, where one of the main topics will be the situation in the Western Balkans.
According to a European Union diplomat, the focus of the discussions will be strengthening cooperation between the EU and countries in the region, increasing resistance to external influences, and combating disinformation campaigns.
"We will discuss how to make the region more resistant to negative foreign interference, as well as adapting to EU foreign policy positions and preventing sanctions evasion ," the diplomat told KOHE.
The meeting is also expected to address the participation of Western Balkan countries in EU missions for security and defense. Albania and North Macedonia are mentioned as countries that have advanced partnerships in this area.
Another central topic will be regional cooperation, with particular emphasis on the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, mediated by the European Union.
According to the European official, the EU assesses that the dialogue has made progress in recent months, but the pace of developments remains slower than expected in Brussels.
"The Belgrade-Pristina dialogue has not advanced with the dynamics we would like to see. We expect discussions on ways in which the process can move forward ," the EU diplomat said.
He also emphasized that the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Kaja Kallas, is ready to actively engage in this process, while also mentioning the impact that political developments and elections in Kosovo have had on the dialogue.
The ministers will also discuss preparations for the EU-Western Balkans summit, which will be held in June in Tivat, Montenegro.
