Albin Kurti, Prime Minister and leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, described the meeting with the leader of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, as constructive, emphasizing that the remaining three weeks will be used to try to find a solution for the election of the new president.
He stated that through these meetings the aim will be to reach an agreement.
" The constructive atmosphere and the willingness to avoid new elections make me optimistic about these remaining three weeks. I hope we don't use them until the last day or hour, as has become the custom ," Kurti said.
He stressed that new elections would not be a solution to securing the 80 votes needed to elect a new president.
" It is difficult to imagine an election campaign with the same promises, asking citizens for votes for a result that we know does not change much ," he added.
Like Abdixhiku, he did not provide concrete details from the meeting, emphasizing the need to maintain the confidentiality of the talks.
" We are leaders of democratic entities and we are transparent regarding the process, but we must maintain the confidentiality of the talks. When the talks bring concrete results, we can be accountable for the achievements. But as long as this is not the case, we cannot talk about specific names ," Kurti stressed.
He added that he continues to hold the same position that a majority of 84 or 85 deputies should be secured for a specific candidate, and not just aiming for 80 or 81 votes.
" Only a majority of 84 or 85 MPs would make us comfortable. I still believe that the number 80 or 81 is not our target to move forward, it is more than that. We should aim until the last day not for 81, but for 84 or 85 MPs ," he said.
Kurti announced that he will also try to hold a meeting with the leader of the PDK, Bedri Hamza, emphasizing that the next president should not belong to one or two parties, but a figure who represents a broader political consensus.
