The opposition continues the boycott, the session is postponed to 23:00...
Kosovo appears to be very close to new parliamentary elections. Political irresponsibility is plunging the youngest state in Europe into a crisis, a crisis from which it is not known when it will emerge.
Today is the deadline to elect the president and the signals are clear that such a thing will not happen. The session called in the morning was postponed to 14:00, then postponed to 19:00, but it has failed again.
The opposition did not participate and the Speaker of the Assembly postponed the process to 23:00. The law clearly stipulates that at least 80 deputies must be present for the vote to be considered legal. However, all opposition parties have refused to participate, causing the process to fail. If the president is not elected by midnight today, Kosovo will go to new elections.
The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, has made clear the position of the force he leads, describing the process as one-sided and useless for the country. He described the session as a “one-party show,” emphasizing that the LDK will not be part of a process that, according to him, does not guarantee a solution and does not serve the public interest.
The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, also expressed himself in the same vein, stating that his party has been left out of any effort to reach an agreement. According to him, the lack of consultations and political agreement makes participation in such a process impossible, while warning of the risks posed by continuing procedures without a quorum.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Albin Kurti has accused the opposition of deliberately blocking institutions. He described the boycott as anti-institutional behavior and an attempt not to recognize the election results. Kurti stressed that the country does not need new elections, arguing that such a process would bring financial costs and prevent the approval of important agreements for citizens.
Clashes between the parties and the lack of a political compromise leave open the possibility that Kosovo will enter another electoral cycle, at a time when institutions face numerous challenges and seek stability.
