The extraordinary session of the Kosovo Assembly to elect a new President has been postponed again, due to the absence of opposition MPs. The plenary session is expected to resume at 19:00.
The Speaker of the Parliament, Albulena Haxhiu, announced that the session will resume in the evening and once again called on opposition MPs to participate in the process.
"In these circumstances, due to the absence of the opposition and in an effort to ensure that it is present at the session for the election of the President of the Republic of Kosovo, both for constitutional obligations and for the public interest, I inform you that this session continues today at 7:00 PM," said the Speaker of Parliament.
If an agreement is not reached on the election of the President, the Assembly is expected to be dissolved and the country will go to new parliamentary elections within 45 days.
The Vetëvendosje Movement has proposed two names for this post: Feride Rushiti and Hatixhe Hoxha . In the first round of voting, 64 deputies participated, with Rushiti securing 63 votes, while one vote was declared invalid.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated that maximum efforts are being made to ensure the election of the new President, while emphasizing that the opposition must be present at the session, as it considers this a constitutional obligation.
Asked whether he would support a possible candidacy of Vjosa Osmani, Kurti did not give a concrete answer.
"We are making maximum efforts, we are seeing if the opposition MPs who have a constitutional obligation to come and participate are coming," he said.
