The Prime Minister of Kosovo, and also the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, has reacted harshly to the absence of the opposition in the Assembly, accusing it of deliberately blocking the process for electing the President.
He called on opposition MPs to participate in the session scheduled for 7:00 PM and stressed that boycotts do not serve the institutions and the country.
"I consider it has become sufficiently clear that the opposition in Kosovo has no other goal than to block... This entire blockade through the boycott of plenary sessions cannot be called anything other than non-recognition of the election results ," Kurti declared.
The Prime Minister said that several attempts have been made to reach an agreement, including meetings and concrete offers to opposition parties, but according to him, they have been consistently rejected. He also mentioned the proposal for the opposition to bring three names for President, one of which would be supported by the majority, but said that this initiative was not accepted.
"In proposals, those rejections... I invited them to meetings several times, but they didn't come. They didn't even come to the parliamentary debate, we were forced to talk to the citizens," he said.
Kurti added that blocking the process could lead the country towards new elections, with significant financial costs.
"The country would lose over 10 million euros for the elections, not to mention the other consequences if we do not have a functional assembly," he said.
He also praised Feride Rushiti's candidacy for President, highlighting her contribution to supporting victims of sexual violence and describing her as a respected figure at the national and international level.
"A non-partisan, more representative, more consensual candidate... with a noble cause and an internationally recognized name than Feride Rushiti is difficult to find in these circumstances," Kurti said.
The Prime Minister also criticized the opposition's change in stance towards Rushiti's candidacy, emphasizing that it had previously been publicly praised by their representatives.
"I call on them to come to the Assembly," Kurti concluded, considering today's session as a key moment for unblocking the situation.
