New details have come to light from the investigation into the murder of 55-year-old Bardhe Ziçi, who was shot dead by her husband, Shtjefën Ziçi, on July 9 in Shkodra. According to police, the main lead in the investigation remains a conflict fueled by jealousy between the couple.
Security camera footage administered by the investigation team shows that before the incident, the 62-year-old had asked his wife for her cell phone, which led to an argument between them. After the confrontation, he entered the apartment, took the shotgun he possessed with a permit, and shot the woman twice, killing her on the spot.
Investigative sources say that the suspected perpetrator has not yet given an official statement due to his psychological state after the incident. Meanwhile, the defense has announced that it will support the version that the murder was accidental.
According to the lawyers, Shtjefën Ziçi had taken the gun to clean it and was unaware that it was loaded with cartridges. They claim that the gun had been loaded a few days earlier by his wife, without the knowledge of the alleged perpetrator.
However, based on the evidence so far, including video footage and testimonies collected, police continue to suspect that the motive for the crime is related to jealousy.
According to sources close to the investigation, immediately after his arrest, the 62-year-old told officers at the scene that he did not regret what he had done. This statement is not yet considered official evidence, as it was not given as part of the interrogation procedures.
The defense has dismissed suspicions of a jealousy motive, insisting that the incident was the result of an accidental discharge of the weapon.
Meanwhile, sources close to the family indicate that Shtjefën Ziçi has requested that all funeral ceremonies be held for his wife according to the tradition of the Dukagjini area and that the funeral be organized by the family she married into.
The incident occurred at around 1:30 PM on July 9 on the eastern ring road of Shkodra, near the grocery store that the couple managed. After the argument, Bardhe Ziçi tried to leave to escape the attack, but was hit by two gunshots and died on the doorstep of the apartment.
The couple were the parents of two children, a son who lives in Canada and a daughter, an officer in the military unit in Vau i Dejës.
Shtjefën Ziçi worked as a taxi driver with his private vehicle and also dealt with supplying the family store, where his wife also worked.
According to local residents, the couple were known as peaceful people and had no previous conflicts reported between them. They worked together and lived a normal life, so the incident has caused great shock in the community.
Police seized the weapon used in the crime, a licensed shotgun, and arrested the perpetrator at the scene. He did not attempt to flee and did not resist arrest.
The investigation team continues to analyze evidence and security camera footage to fully elucidate the dynamics and circumstances of the incident.
