After taking office as Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu has made her first public reaction, emphasizing that she will exercise this function with responsibility and dedication.
In a post on social networks, Haxhiu guaranteed that during the exercise of his duties he will ensure the normal functioning of institutions and respect for the constitutional order.
" I will exercise this responsibility with full dedication, guaranteeing the uninterrupted functioning of institutions and respect for the constitutional order ," she said.
She underlined that the country's constitutional mechanisms guarantee continuity and institutional stability, while the Kosovo Assembly is expected to continue the procedures for electing the new president within the established deadlines.
Haxhiu's reaction comes immediately after the official handover of office by the outgoing president, Vjosa Osmani, who passed on powers to the Speaker of the Parliament until the election of a new head of state.
During the ceremony at the Presidency, Osmani pointed out the symbolism of the fact that the position is being passed to another woman, describing this as an important moment for representation in institutions.
" It has always been one of my great wishes that, whenever I leave this office, I leave a woman behind. This wish is being fulfilled today and I really hope that, as the people say, you too will 'lift your leg up' so that there will be a woman in this office behind you ," said Osmani.
She warned that the task of the head of state is not easy, emphasizing the great responsibilities associated with directing foreign policy and representing the unity of the country.
" It will not be an easy task. Being the head of state and representing the unity of the country are extraordinary responsibilities ," said Osmani.
The outgoing president also called for the Assembly to elect a new president as soon as possible, in order to guarantee institutional stability in a sensitive period.
At the end of her mandate, Osmani assured that she will continue to contribute to the country even outside of office, while Haxhiu thanked her for her work and service to Kosovo, wishing her continued success.
