Municipality suspends permit after allegations of inaccuracy in content

The exhibition "Massacres in Kosovo 1998–1999", by author Shkëlzen Gashi, has caused numerous debates and public reactions, leading to the removal of the signs from the Pristina square.

The decision to remove them was made a day after the mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, suspended the exhibition permit due to inaccuracies identified in the content.

Rama published footage from the capital's teams' action and demanded institutional responsibility for approving and financing the exhibition. "Not in Pristina... We demand political and institutional responsibility from the Kosovo Assembly for approving and financing such content," he declared.

There were also reactions from the Ministry of Labor, Family and Values of the Liberation War. Minister Andin Hoti called the inaccurate presentation of war crimes unacceptable, emphasizing that in some cases the facts have been distorted and risk relativizing the crimes.

He specifically mentioned the Krusha e Madhe Massacre, where according to him it was incorrectly reported that women and children were allowed to leave, while women, including pregnant women, were also killed in this event.

On the other hand, the author of the exhibition, Shkëlzen Gashi, stated that the data is based on the list of the Humanitarian Law Center, led by Natasha Kandić, emphasizing that this is the only comprehensive list in the absence of an official registry in Kosovo.

According to him, discrepancies in some cases are part of this database and were not determined by the organizers.

The debate over the exhibition has highlighted the lack of an official list of war victims and the sensitivity of the treatment of these events in the public space.
