Ilir Meta, president of the PL, has reacted through social networks, 1 week after the May 11 elections, where he failed to obtain the mandate of deputy in the Albanian Parliament, while running on the open list of the 'PD-ASHM' coalition in the Tirana District.
And while the media has given several variants on how Meta could gain the mandate, by having the candidates on the closed list resign, the former President emphasizes that he has no intention of becoming an MP through machinations.
"I want to assure everyone that Ilir Metaj, since 2008, when the adverse constitutional changes were made, has fought for representation only through the free and open will of citizens, in a continuous and principled manner, because this is a matter of my conviction and character and as a result I cannot accept any gimmick or pragmatic solution that goes against the major causes for which I have fought and will always fight," Meta writes.

First of all, I thank the approximately 8,000 voters who voted for Ilir Metaj, who resisted the extraordinary pressures of the Drug State and did not sell their freedom, their soul, or their character in the face of a criminal state machine that severely violated election standards, democracy, and the rule of law at its foundation.
For me, they are not voters but heroes and will forever enjoy all my boundless gratitude.
Some benevolent voices, but also others diabolical, suggest that as a way to obtain my parliamentary mandate, the resignation of the Freedom Party candidates on the closed list of the Tirana District.

I would like to thank and appreciate Tedi Blushi, and other colleagues in the Freedom Party who fought with dedication in this unequal campaign in the face of the Drug State and its criminal electoral machinery, infidelities, and backstabbing.
A special thank you to all those commissioners, counters, and observers, who are continuing with persistence and high responsibility to count and protect every vote until the last one.
