DP's defeat on May 11, former Interior Minister: The three regional leaders

The results of the May 11 elections in Albania, where the vote count shows that the Socialist Party led by Edi Rama won 83 seats, while the DP-ASHM coalition led by Sali Berisha won 50 seats, continues to generate reactions.

Former Interior Minister Dritan Demiraj, commenting on "Off the Record" on the results of the May 11 elections, did not hide his disappointment over the Democratic Party's deep defeat.

Precisely as the reason for this defeat, Demiraj praised the Democratic Party's lists, as he called them, as imperfect.

"Without a doubt, the elections were not free and fair. The problems were endless, which the DP is working every day to identify and report abroad. On the other hand, I personally have been in support of the DP all the time because the DP is a national asset. On the other hand, the DP must see itself reforming. I will not say bad words about the DP. The DP must be reformed. I think that the DP lists were not perfect lists," Demiraj declared.

He focused in particular on three political leaders of the Democratic Party, Tomor Alizoti, Gazment Bardhi and Bujar Leskaj, who headed the lists in the Elbasan, Fier and Vlora districts, where the Democrats also lost one mandate each on the safe lists.

According to him, these three figures should be replaced, considering the catastrophic outcome for the districts they led.

"There were people who, in particular, delusional people, who wanted to show... they had statements: 'we will eat meat, we will eat like this'. The spectacular failure of the leader of Elbasan, the leader of Fier and Vlora, should serve as lessons learned. Where the leadership of the DP, should take measures, to replace people whose main objective is to identify as great leaders, in quotes, these individuals, but on the other hand, on the ground they have ensured a scandalous result", said Demiraj in "Off the Record" by Andrea Danglli, on A2 CNN.

Demiraj also underlined that the DP must be reformed to inspire hope among Albanians who are tired of left-wing governance.

"The opposition will need to reform itself to increase the trust of the opposition people, of all of us who want Albania to have a more accurate, more modern and more appropriate political direction to increase the economy and well-being of the Albanian people," said Demiraj.
