Ilir Shtufi, arrested a few days ago in Thessaloniki as part of an operation by Albanian authorities against a group suspected of international drug trafficking and money laundering, has opposed his extradition to Albania.
Greek media report that the 53-year-old Albanian, arrested on the basis of an Interpol International Red Notice, appeared before the Appeals Prosecutor's Office in Thessaloniki, where he stated that he does not accept extradition and denied any involvement in the charges against him.
Further, the competent Judicial Council will decide on the extradition of the 53-year-old Albanian arrested in Thessaloniki, as he is wanted by the authorities of his country for participation in a criminal organization and money laundering.
"The 53-year-old was arrested pursuant to the International Red Notice that was pending against him by the Albanian authorities, which are seeking his arrest and extradition for criminal offenses allegedly committed in 2020 in Tirana and specifically for "money laundering committed including funds derived from drug trafficking, participation in a structured criminal organization and commission of criminal offenses by a criminal organization and structured criminal groups", reports "Protothema".
As confirmed by the authorities' investigation, the 53-year-old entered Greece last Friday from the Kristallopig border station, while early in the morning of the same day, Albanian authorities carried out coordinated investigations in their country for his arrest and that of other persons involved in this case, "Protothema" informs.
His arrest was made by police officers of the Northern Greece Organized Crime Sub-Directorate, following information transmitted through international police cooperation channels and INTERPOL, and he was eventually found in a hotel in Thessaloniki.
According to the extradition request, the acts he is suspected of are related to activity carried out in 2020 in Tirana.
According to reports, Shtufi had entered Greece through the Kapshtica border crossing shortly before the operation conducted by SPAK and BKH in Albania, while his arrest was carried out in a hotel in Thessaloniki following information exchanged between Albanian, Greek authorities and Interpol.
