The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, commented this Monday on the decision of MP Marjana Koçeku to continue her mandate as an independent.
During a statement to the media, after his appearance at the Special Prosecution Office premises as part of the "compulsory appearance" security measure, Berisha also touched on recent political developments.
He said that he still does not know the full reasons for Koçek's departure, but stressed that he would congratulate her if her decision was related to Prime Minister Edi Rama's stance towards the protest held the day before.
"Now, if Ms. Koçeku has resigned, has left the group because of Edi Rama's stance on the protest, I congratulate her. If she has, because she has not explained the reasons, I expect her to explain the reasons so that I can speak out. But I am saying it now, if she has resigned because of Edi Rama's irresponsible stance on the grand protest, unprecedented in the history of Tirana, she has done a civic act. I assure the protesters that the mandates of the DP are and will be entirely in function of this movement ," he said.
A day ago, MP Marjana Koçeku announced her decision to continue her parliamentary activity as an independent MP, while she has not yet provided a detailed explanation on the reasons for this political step.
