Democratic Party MP, Ina Zhupa, has once again denounced the mismanagement of public funds in the Municipality of Saranda, referring to the latest report of the Supreme State Audit Office (SSA).
According to Zhupa, the SAI audit has identified an economic damage of around 1 million euros in just one year, while she described the report as "the best indictment" against the municipality's administration.
The MP stated that, according to the ALSHI report, around 630 thousand euros constitute economic damage due to the municipality's inaction, 226 thousand euros are related to violations in procurement procedures, 101 thousand euros to payments for unfinished works and 117 thousand euros to artistic and cultural projects that, according to her, were not carried out in accordance with procurement procedures.
Zhupa accused the municipality leaders of harming the public interest and warned that the opposition will continue denunciations and will address the justice system.
"The latest report by the Albanian Supreme Audit Office is, in fact, the best indictment for the Municipality of Saranda.
In just 1 audited year, around 1 million euros were abused by this municipality.
We are clearly not dealing with one or two incompetent officials, but we are dealing with a model of governance, a model of extorting public money and misgoverning.
Data shows that around 630 thousand euros are economic damage due to the municipality's inaction.
226 thousand euros is economic damage for violations in procurement, 101 thousand euros is economic damage for paid works, but in fact not completed, and 117 thousand euros is economic damage for parties, for artistic-cultural projects, which were not carried out according to procurement.
We are clearly dealing with a municipality that abuses citizens' taxes, steals them, and does not work in the public interest.
"That's why we will denounce it every day, we will stand by the citizens for their protests and their problems, and we will guarantee that not only will we bring the files to justice, but we will take over the Municipality of Saranda in the next elections and put it at the service of the citizens," Zhupa said in her statement.
