Brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate, well-known figures on social media with millions of followers, have been arrested in Miami by the US Marshals Service, as part of an extradition request filed by British authorities.
According to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in the UK, the two brothers face dozens of charges, including rape, human trafficking for sexual exploitation, physical assault and other criminal offences, relating to alleged events that occurred between 2010 and 2017. British authorities have initiated proceedings for their extradition.
Andrew and Tristan Tate, who have British and American citizenship, became known worldwide for content published on social networks, where they promoted a luxurious lifestyle and controversial views on gender relations.
Their legal troubles are not new. In 2022, they were arrested in Romania on suspicion of forming an organized criminal group, human trafficking and rape. Both have repeatedly denied the charges, while the court proceedings in Romania have been delayed due to procedural issues.
Andrew Tate, a former kickboxing champion, has been at the center of controversy for years, including for his statements on social media. In 2016, he left the British show "Big Brother" after the release of a video that caused strong reactions.
The Tate brothers' lawyer has declared that his clients are innocent and has described the charges as unfounded, while the Florida court is expected to review the procedures related to the extradition request to the United Kingdom.
