The 40-year-old journalist left behind a career built with dedication, a family that loved him immensely, and the memory of a colleague who always lived close to the news.
There are news stories that are difficult to write and even more difficult to believe. The premature departure of journalist Enrik Mehmeti is one of them.
At the age of 40, he tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident in the Porto-Nova area of Vlora, leaving behind a huge void for his family, friends, colleagues and all those who knew him closely.
Enriku was one of those journalists who did not see the profession as an ordinary job. He lived for the news, he was always where the event was happening and believed that the duty of a journalist was to be close to the people, reporting responsibly and honestly. For years he became one of the most well-known voices of the chronicle in Vlora, closely following the most important events of the city and beyond.
His career took off when he joined News24, where he professionally reported on news, social developments, tourism and any event that was important to the public. He later collaborated as a correspondent for the Italian television Rai, covering developments from Albania for the Italian audience.
His love for journalism was born early. In the turbulent year of 1997, when he was only 11 years old, he joined the "Alba" missionary camp as a translator. At a time when the country was experiencing uncertainty and violence, he took his first steps towards the mission that would later become his life's profession. Enriku himself confessed that it was precisely those experiences that convinced him that journalism was the path he wanted to follow.
But beyond the camera and microphone, he was a man devoted to his family. A father of two, he lived between the United States and Albania, trying to build a better life for his loved ones, without ever breaking away from his birthplace and the profession that identified him.
Those who knew him remember him as a smiling, communicative man, always ready to help. In the field, he was persistent and courageous, while in everyday life he remained simple, loving, and devoted to the people he loved.
With the passing of Enrik Mehmeti, Albanian journalism loses a tireless reporter, while Vlora loses one of the voices that told its stories for years. Above all, two children lose their father, the family loses its pillar, while friends and colleagues a man who will be remembered for his integrity, passion and unconditional love for the profession.
There are people who report the news and there are people who become part of its history. Enrik Mehmeti was among those journalists who lived the profession with heart. For this, his memory will remain long in the memory of his colleagues and the public who followed him over the years. "Pamfleti" expresses its condolences to the family for this untimely separation of their son.
