The most voted Socialist Party candidate in the Tirana district, Blendi Gonxhja, has criticized the Democratic Party for the way it engaged in the May 11 local elections.
In an interview for the show "This Week" on News24, Gonxha said that the opposition was disorganized, with minimal presence on the ground and a clear lack of political direction. He emphasized that in the problematic areas where he campaigned, the presence of the DP was not felt and citizens did not have a credible opposition alternative.
According to him, the fragmentation and radicalization of the Democratic Party is leading this force towards marginalization, leaving a void in the Albanian political scene.
" In the area where I was, the DP politicians passed by 2-3 times on foot, they met with several families that were affected by the earthquake, it was not clear which of them is the political leader of the area where we are. I do not know who the political leader in Tirana from the DP is, I do not yet know who the democratic deputy who could refer to the area is. I have not seen people from the DP, in an area with many problems. Unfortunately for Albania, we do not have an opposition. The country needs to move forward quickly on the path to the EU. We had a political party that was Marx and Lenin, another that resembles Berlusconi, but it achieved some results, the DP was fragmented. If I were a person who would vote against the government, I would not know who to vote for. The analysis of the division should be done by the DP. I believe that the DP understands the problem, but they continuously ignore public opinion. The DP has been radicalized and has an increasingly smaller group and is leading itself towards defeat ," he said. him.
But Gonxhe praised Jorida Tabaku: " Tabaku has shown citizenship, he is one of the most articulate voices in the DP. Among the Democrats, he is one of the most moderate voices, which is probably why he has climbed the rankings. People are tired of aggressiveness. I am not giving grades to who has suffered from this, but people want people with their feet on the ground, who do not offend. People have given great importance to this part in these elections ."
