MPs are ordered not to leave Tirana, everyone is on standby for July 27th...
For 47 days in a row, the citizen protest has not changed either the demands or the rhythm. Every evening, citizens return to the Prime Minister's Office demanding the departure of Edi Rama and the end of the political model that, according to them, has held the country hostage for more than three decades. But while the revolt continues without signs of fatigue, signals are increasing in the socialist camp that the prime minister may have launched a political maneuver to reduce citizen anger.
The head of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, has asked the majority MPs not to leave Tirana and to be ready for July 27. The parliament closes on July 23 and there are suspicions that the SP is considering an extraordinary plenary session.
There is no official explanation for this move. There is talk within the majority that it could be about draft laws related to the European integration process, but there is also no shortage of rumors linking this possible meeting to a reshuffle of the government cabinet and changes in other leadership positions.
Exactly such a scenario was rumored weeks ago, when among the socialists there was talk of "reflection" after the protests.
At the same time, another signal has come from the Socialist Party itself. Elisa Spiropali has today submitted a motion to open the debate on the "New Deal for Albania", a document that contains an unusual analysis for a force that has been in power for 13 years.
The document acknowledges that "for weeks, a civic energy has been emerging on the streets of Tirana that cannot be ignored without consequences," while emphasizing that "the governing majority should not see this as a noise that should be suppressed and ignored, but as a moment of reflection for Albanian democracy."
Further, the document speaks of the need for more democracy, more representation, less concentration of decision-making, separation of party from state, the end of privileges, the return of meritocracy, and even uses a formulation that sounds like self-criticism about the way of governing: "More humility, less arrogance."
Meanwhile, a few days ago, it was Balla who announced "beheadings." " A little more and the time for dialogue with those who had their legitimate reasons to protest will naturally come. From concerns about nature to anger towards those who abuse the trust in the seat of power, our listening and reflection ," Balla expressed.
On the other hand, there has been no comment from within the SP about Spiropal's movement and it is no surprise that everything is coordinated. So both Spiropal's document and Balla's message.
This raises doubts as to whether Rama is preparing a strong "earthquake" in the government in the coming days, as a reflection of the protest, or as a maneuver to calm down the citizen anger. The possibility of calling the SP Assembly is not ruled out.
It remains to be seen whether there will really be changes in the government or other political movements on July 27. But the question that arises is: Will Rama be able to stop the citizen reaction? The streets are demanding his removal and the entire political caste, will the Flamingos be deceived by the 'turkey heads'? / Pamphlet
