Martin Can's parents have reacted after the statements of Prime Minister Edi Rama, who, during the presentation of the "Smart City" project and its implementation in 20 schools, also referred to the tragedy that took the life of their son.
In a public statement, the Cani family accuses the head of government of continuing to use Martin's name for political and propaganda purposes, while, according to them, avoiding the responsibilities of the institutions that failed to protect him.
"The Cani family expresses its deep indignation at the way Prime Minister Rama continues to use the name of our son, Martin Cani, for political and propaganda purposes, avoiding the real responsibilities of the institutions that failed to protect him," they emphasize.
The family says that Rama's statements, according to which parents should feel more at ease thanks to the measures taken by the government, do not match reality. They argue that even after the closure of TikTok, which was presented by the government as one of the measures after the murder of Martin, the country has faced other cases of murder of minors in Maliq and Durrës. For the family, these events show that the problem is not related to social networks, but to the lack of security in schools, the failures of the education system and institutional responsibility.
In their response, the parents also object to the government's focus on the smart camera project in schools. They say that cameras cannot prevent violence, do not replace psychologists and do not guarantee the safety of students. According to them, investing in technology cannot replace concrete measures that, according to the family, would avoid such tragic events.
The Cani family also raises questions about the lack of communication from the prime minister. They say that, although Rama has publicly stated that he constantly thinks about Martin, he has never met the family, offered no institutional support, and has not apologized for what they consider a failure of the state system.
Further, in their statement, the Cani family also speaks about Martin's medical treatment. According to the family, the Trauma Hospital lacked both a cardiac surgeon and a heart-lung machine, which would have increased the chances of saving their son's life. They criticize the fact that this equipment has not yet been provided, while raising the question of how many more lives must be lost before such investments are made.

Ata e konsiderojnë të papranueshme që, sipas tyre, 18 muaj pas ngjarjes ende nuk ka përgjigje për këto çështje.
"Drejtësi për Martinin, siguri për fëmijët e Shqipërisë, përgjegjësi nga institucionet dhe veprime, jo fjalë", janë kërkesat me të cilat familja e mbyll deklaratën e saj publike.

Familja Cani shpreh indinjatën e saj të thellë për mënyrën se si Kryeministri Rama vazhdon të përdorë emrin e djalit tonë, Martin Cani, për qëllime politike dhe propagandistike, duke shmangur përgjegjësitë reale të institucioneve që dështuan ta mbronin.
Edhe sot, në fjalimin e tij publik, Kryeministri deklaroi se: “Prindërit duhet të ndihen të lehtësuar… qeveria është ndryshe nga si përshkruhet në kanalet sociale.” Por ndërkohë, realiteti është krejt tjetër: fëmijët vazhdojnë të vriten, institucionet vazhdojnë të dështojnë dhe tragjeditë nuk po ndalen.
Vrasjet e miturve nuk ndaluan pas mbylljes së TikTok
Pavarësisht mbylljes së TikTok, të cilën qeveria e përdori si justifikim politik pas vrasjes së Martinit, realiteti është i qartë:
Një i mitur u vra në Maliq.
Një tjetër i mitur u vra në Durrës.
Këto tragjedi tregojnë se rrjetet sociale nuk janë shkaku i vrasjeve, por dështimi i sistemit arsimor, mungesa e sigurisë në shkolla dhe papërgjegjshmëria institucionale.
Vendosja e kamerave nuk zgjidh problemin
Kryeministri foli sot për “smart city në shkolla” dhe për vendosjen e kamerave, duke thënë se: “Algoritmi është një trup që bën atë që thotë.”
Por kamerat:
nuk parandalojnë dhunën,
nuk zëvendësojnë psikologët,
nuk zgjidhin mungesën e sigurisë,
nuk e shpëtuan Martinin, dhe nuk do të shpëtojnë fëmijë të tjerë pa masa reale.
Siguria në shkolla kërkon veprime, jo pajisje teknologjike për propagandë.
Kryeministri thotë se “mendon vazhdimisht për Martinin”, por nuk ka bërë asgjë për familjen tonë
Nëse Kryeministri mendon vërtet për Martinin:
Pse nuk ka takuar asnjëherë familjen tonë?
Pse nuk ka ofruar asnjë mbështetje institucionale?
Pse nuk ka kërkuar falje për dështimet e sistemit që ai drejton?
Fjalët nuk mjaftojnë. Ne kemi parë vetëm heshtje, shmangie dhe përdorim politik të tragjedisë sonë.
Pse nuk është blerë pajisja e zemrës që do ta shpëtonte Martinin?
Martini vdiq sepse:

The Prime Minister didn't say a word. No distancing. No punishment. No apology.
Is this the respect he claims to have for our son?
The police did not do their job, the crime weapon was found by a random passerby.
If the police had acted properly:
The murder weapon would not have been found by a random citizen;
The evidence would not have been at risk of being lost;
The investigation would not have been truncated.
This is clear evidence of the failure of the law enforcement structures.
The Prime Minister should demand the urgent closure of the 18-month investigation into the Fan Noli school and the healthcare system
instead of politicizing Martin's tragedy:
The Prime Minister must demand the urgent closure of the investigation into the responsibility of the Fan Noli school, which did not notify parents of Friday's incident;
He must demand the urgent closure of the investigation into the spectacular failure of the health system, which sent Martin to the wrong hospital and did not have the equipment to save him.
18 months of investigation without answers is an institutional shame.
We will not remain silent.
Martini was not a political slogan. Martini was not a pretext for censorship. Martini was not an excuse for cameras.
Martini was a good kid, a footballer with dreams, a boy who deserved to live.
