Elbasan Police have initiated criminal proceedings against two people suspected of threatening journalist Osman Stafa during the performance of his duties, while he was documenting the extraction of inert materials from the Shkumbin River, in the Hotolisht area, Librazhd.
According to the official Police announcement, the Crime Investigation specialists of the Elbasan Police Commissariat, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, carried out the first investigative actions and initiated criminal proceedings for the criminal offense of "Threat due to duty" against citizens with the initials RT, 33 years old, resident of Tirana, and AB, 31 years old, resident of Librazhd.
Referring to the Police, on July 17, 2026, at around 2:00 PM, journalist Osman Stafa informed the Operations Room that while traveling on the Librazhd-Elbasan road, he felt threatened by two people traveling in a vehicle.
According to the journalist's report, after finishing filming on the Shkumbin River, the vehicle followed him along the Librazhd-Elbasan axis, cutting off his path several times and then blocking his passage, which he considered an act of intimidation due to his work.
" I have filed a report with the Elbasan Police for this incident ," declared Stafa, who described the stop in the middle of the road as a "mafia act."
The event was also denounced by the Albanian Journalists Association (AGSH), which condemned any form of intimidation against journalists and demanded a full and impartial investigation from the Prosecution and State Police, as well as taking measures to guarantee the journalist's safety.
The procedural materials have been referred to the Prosecutor's Office for further investigative actions.
