The United States has raised the alarm over the growing threat from far-left political terrorism and has gathered allies for a special meeting in Washington to discuss joint security measures.
According to US authorities, attacks and plots linked to extremist groups have increased significantly in recent years. The meeting focused on strengthening international cooperation to address this new security challenge.
Criminalistics expert Ervin Karamuço said that analyses conducted in the US show an increase in acts of violence linked to extreme left-wing and anarchist groups, both in the US and in Europe.
According to him, such individuals are also infiltrated in the protests in Albania, whose activities should be monitored. The expert also touched on the phenomenon of coordinated attacks on businesses through negative comments and evaluations on online platforms, calling it a serious problem for the economy.
"From the analyses conducted in the US, an increase in acts of sponsorship of violence in the US and Europe by extreme left groups, but also by anarchist groups, has been noted. It is no longer just buildings that are targeted through protests, but also critical infrastructure, the economy and businesses.
This has taken the concern of the US Department of State (DASH) to another level. America has also put Albania on its map, where according to information there are cells that aim to damage critical infrastructure. They are infiltrated within the protests.
If these actions are part of a genuine plan, we are dealing with criminal organizations. They are talking about attacks on institutions, arson, the use of explosives and damage to businesses. They have tactics similar to those seen in the US and Europe.
Intelligence and law enforcement agencies, with which we are partners, as a NATO member state and as a candidate country for the European Union, exchange information. Together with other structures and the American Embassy, individuals and their targets have been identified.
"There are active investigations underway and it remains to be seen what the results will be. Around 200 people have attacked businesses and this is not normal. These are acts of extremism, which harm order, stability and pose a serious threat to public order in Albania," he told ABC News.
