A recent statement by Serbian Minister Paunovic has sparked strong debates and numerous reactions in Kosovo, but also from the European Union. To analyze this situation and its implications for national security, renowned security expert from Kosovo, Bedri Elezi, gave a live interview in the News24 studio.
According to Elezit, this statement is not an isolated position, but clearly reflects the strategy and real approach of official Belgrade towards the Republic of Kosovo. He emphasized that this rhetoric serves as a code and direct encouragement for radical, criminal and terrorist groups in the north of the country.
The security expert made a chronological connection of events, recalling that just two days before this statement, the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, publicly came out in defense of Milan Radoić, the main person responsible for the terrorist attack in Banjska.
"We have a kind of embrace of Serbian politicians towards the terrorist groups that carried out the attack in the north. This statement by the minister deliberately provoked the international reaction, attempting to motivate parallel structures to destabilize the constitutional order of Kosovo," said Elezi.
According to him, behind this strategy lies the interest of Russia and Iran to create new hotbeds of conflict in the Balkans, with the aim of defocusing the attention of the US and its allies from other global crises.
Elezi was highly critical of the way state institutions in Pristina are managing this situation. He stated that declaring the Serbian minister persona non grata or warning of criminal charges are superficial actions and only for "political and media consumption."
According to the expert, immediate steps that needed to be taken include:
-Meeting of the National Security Council to analyze the current situation and increase intelligence vigilance.
-Preparing files with concrete evidence and sending official letters to the Quint countries and international organizations, instead of statements in the media.
-The official request to NATO to increase its presence, especially at a time when there has been talk of reducing forces.
