Following the cable sent to the US Embassy in Tirana, the US Secretary of State announces a new policy that prohibits entry into the US of persons associated with far-left groups and their activities.

The US administration has announced a new policy restricting visas for individuals associated with far-left groups, weeks after the State Department asked over 20 US embassies, including the US Embassy in Tirana, to collect information on the activity of these groups in the countries where they are accredited.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that far-left terrorist groups and their affiliated organizations use organized networks to exercise violence as a political tool, with the aim of intimidating opponents and undermining democratic institutions.

According to Rubio, these groups use bombings, assassinations and other forms of terrorism to limit freedom of expression, influence political decision-making and sabotage democratic processes.

In this context, the US Department of State has announced a new visa restriction policy, which will apply to members of far-left terrorist groups and organizations affiliated with them.

According to the statement, the measures will affect foreign nationals who have supported or incited terrorist acts, supported violent criminal activities, participated in economic sabotage, financed, recruited or provided logistical support for violent or criminal actions, as well as facilitated cooperation between left-wing extremist networks to commit violent acts.

Rubio said the policy aims to protect the United States by closing entry routes for people who fund, recruit or support these networks.

"This policy will protect the American homeland by restricting the entry of foreign nationals who finance, recruit, incite, or otherwise support far-left terrorist networks, closing the visa pathways that these groups use to threaten American lives, undermine economic stability, and coordinate violent actions on U.S. soil," Rubio declared.

The announcement comes after a diplomatic cable previously reported by The Washington Post, according to which the US State Department had asked more than 20 US embassies, including the US Embassy in Tirana, to collect information on far-left groups operating in the countries where they are accredited, as part of the Trump administration's strategy against what it calls a "resurgence of far-left transnational terrorism."

The new visa policy is implemented under Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the US Immigration and Nationality Act, which gives the State Department the authority to restrict the entry into the US of foreign nationals when their presence is deemed to have detrimental consequences for the foreign policy or national interests of the United States.
